General Information

The Republic of Moldova took over the Presidency of the Central European Initiative within the CEI Summit of Prim – ministers that took place in Sofia (Bulgaria), on 27 of November 2007. The Republic of Moldova became a member of the Central European Initiative in 1996.

In the last 10 years, Moldova actively participated at the regional cooperation process in Central Europe and South Eastern, participating at the most initiatives, processes and regional organizations thus becoming a reliable partner in the process of achieving the regional objectives.

The Republic of Moldova is aware and fully shares the important idea that regional cooperation has in the process of the development of the states and perceives it as a mechanism of reaching the European integration objective and of realization of the objective in the priority domains or cooperation between the CEI member states.

The Republic of Moldova, as an integrated part of the region, has the political will and it is ready to apply the principle of regional ownership, assumed by the states of the Central and South Eastern Europe regarding the achievement of the development of the regional cooperation processes as well as in advancing on the path of European Integration.

The Republic of Moldova will chair the Presidency of the CEI in a decisive period for the organization, which is providing the implementation of the decisions regarding the CEI transformation. In this context, our country will assure all necessary actions and efforts for realization of the aims and basic principles of CEI.
