Meeting of the Committee of National Coordinators of the CEI Member States
On January 31st 2008 in Chisinau took place the first Meeting of the Committee of National Coordinators of the CEI Member States within the Presidency of our country to CEI. At the Meeting participated representatives of 18 member states, the General Director of the Initiative, as well as representatives of the Executive Secretariat and Secretariat for CEI Projects.
Within the meeting, have been discussed topics related to the current CEI Actions, adopted decisions on repositioning and reformations of CEI, creation of a network of national contact points and experts that will cooperate on the promotion and implementation of projects of joint interest as well as the program, concept, priorities of the Presidency of our country that stipulate the essential objectives according to which the current mandate will be carried out.
As mentioned by Mr. Dumitru Tira, the chairman of the meeting, National Coordinator of the Republic of Moldova for CEI, "The Republic of Moldova has taken over the mandate of CEI President in a period extremely important for the organization, having the mandate and the obligation to implement the decisions on repositioning and reformation of CEI. Thus, my country will concentrate its efforts with the aim of assuring a coherent transition in the repositioning process and will assume great responsibility for assuring the continuous development of the organization".
Mr. Gheorghe Duca, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, as a special invitee, has presented the priorities of the Presidency with the aim of establishing the necessary measures of academic interconnection with technological solutions as well as assuring the regional cooperation in the respective domain.
Within this Meeting, MFAEI organized an informal session, chaired by Mr. Valeriu Ostalep, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, within which have been discussed and identified actions aiming at the development of cooperation between CEI and EU.
Established by Austria, Italy, Hungary and Yugoslavia in 1989, CEI establishes the integrated framework of dialogue, coordination and cooperation between the member states in the political, economic, cultural and parliamentary sectors leading thus to the creation of an atmosphere of mutual understanding, were national and transnational projects are discussed, planned, studied and implemented. At the moment, CEI brings together 18 member countries: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine and Hungary.
The Republic of Moldova became a member of the Central European Initiative in 1996, actively participating in the process of regional cooperation in Central and South Eastern Europe.
