The Republic of Moldova took over the Presidency to the Central European Initiative

On December 17, 2007 in Trieste, Italia, within the Meeting of the National Coordinators of the Central European Initiative, the Republic of Moldova took over officially, the Presidency to the CEI. The decision regarding the Presidency of our country was adopted within the Summit of the CEI Prime Ministers that took place on November 27, 2007 in Sofia (Bulgaria). The Republic of Moldova will hold the Presidency during the next year starting with January 1 2008.

Within the CEI Presidency, the Republic of Moldova will concentrate on the implementation of the decisions of the Prime Ministers Summit from Sofia regarding the repositioning and reorganization of CEI, will coordinate the efforts of the organization and those of the member countries with the aim of developing the relations with the European Union, strengthening the cooperation between the CEI member states and EU non-member countries, as well as on the sectoral development through the implementation of joint projects to the benefit of the countries that are a part of this regional arrangement.

At the Meeting from Trieste, our country was represented by Mr. Dumitru TIRA, Director of the Regional Cooperation Directorate within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the CEI National Coordinator of the Republic of Moldova that presented the program and priorities of the presidency of our country. Within the CEI Presidency, the Republic of Moldova will organize a number of high level political meetings, as well as sectoral ones in domain such as: economy, energy, transport, tourism, youth, civil society, science and other. In the same context, MFAEI will organize the meeting of the CEI National Coordinators that will take place in Chisinau in January 2008.
